Troubled by family disputes, a youth attempted to end his life by setting himself on fire in front of police in Warangal on Friday.

The youth, Katla Harshith, poured petrol over his body, set himself ablaze and rushed into the Azam Jahi Mills Colony police station, where he was being counselled over family matters. Writer Praveen and head constable Magdoom sustained injuries while trying to extinguish the flames.

rushed to MGM Hospital in an auto-rickshaw. Speaking to the media, he said he had taken the extreme step due to alleged mental harassment by his mother-in-law and because his wife, Vaishnavi, was staying away from him.

Harshith, a resident of Laxminagar area in Karimabad, Warangal, broke down while alleging that his child had been kept away from him for the past few months. He married Vaishnavi four years ago and the couple have a son. His condition is said to be critical.
