A youngster, Bandi Sathish, attempted suicide by consuming pesticide during the Prajavani programme at the Collectorate office on Monday.

Sathish, who had come to submit a representation to officials over a pending promise of a job on compassionate grounds for him, opened a pesticide bottle in front of them. However, alert officials and security personnel foiled his attempt and rushed him to the district headquarters hospital.

A native of Kistampet in Kalvasrirampur mandal, Sathish had been seeking a dependent job promised by

officials following the death of his father, Madhunaiah. His father, a part-time sweeper at the local primary school, died on January 29 after being bitten by a poisonous insect while making arrangements for Republic Day celebrations.

When the family staged a dharna in front of the school with the body, officials assured them that a job would be given to a family member. Despite repeated representations, the assurance has not been fulfilled, leaving Sathish frustrated. Upset over the unkept promise, he attempted to end his life during the Prajavani programme.
