A young doctor working at a primary healthcare centre in rural Karimnagar and public health commentator, Dr Gautam Pasula, died by suicide on Monday.
According to family members and colleagues, Dr Gautam was distressed after failing to clear the postgraduate medical entrance examination for two consecutive years, which is believed to have contributed to the extreme
step.
Dr Gautam, who also served as the vice-president for Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), Karimnagar, was a vocal advocate for banning Paraquat Dichloride, the toxic weed killer, to prevent fatal poisonings among farmers and safeguard public health.
Senior office bearers of HRDA Telangana expressed grief and condolences on the tragic and untimely demise of Dr Goutham Pasula.
