The Nacharam police have cracked the murder case of Sujatha (65), a house owner who was killed for gold at her residence in Nacharam, Hyderabad.

The police have arrested the accused and recovered her body from the Vainateya Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh’s Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.

According to police, the prime accused, Anjibabu (33), a cab driver from Kothapalli village in Pervali mandal of Konaseema district, had taken a portion of Sujatha’s house on rent about two months ago.

Sujatha, a resident of Babanagar in Mallapur under Nacharam police station limits, was living alone after the death of her husband and sons.

On the night of December 19, Anjibabu allegedly murdered Sujatha to rob

the gold she was wearing and decamped with 11 tolas of gold. He locked the house with the body inside and fled to his native place.

He later informed his friends Yuvaraju (18) of Kandavalli village and Durgarao (35) of Vemavaram village about the crime. On December 20, the trio hired a car, returned to Mallapur, shifted the body and transported it to Krishna Lanka in Konaseema district, where they dumped it into the Godavari river.

The crime came to light on December 24 when Sujatha’s sister Suvarnalatha, who lives in Moinabad, visited the house and found her missing. She lodged a complaint with the police.

Suspecting the tenant’s disappearance, the police traced and detained Anjibabu, who confessed to the crime during interrogation.
