Four unidentified assailants dragged a woman into the bushes and cut her throat killing her on the spot in front of her husband in IDA Bolaram police limits of Sangareddy district late Saturday night.
Police said the couple, Anil Kumar, 37 and Meena Devi, 35, natives of Bihar, were returning home to Venkateshwara Colony after buying vegetables at Shanthakulam when their bike broke down near Gandigudem sports complex around 9.30 pm.
In the darkness, the armed men who had been hiding in the bushes intercepted the bike. Two of them restrained Anil while the others pulled Meena Devi into the thickets. Despite her cries for help, one assailant held her hands while another killed
her.
Anil, who tried to resist, was also attacked with daggers. The assailants then fled on bikes with their headlamps switched off, escaping through a side road near the sports complex.
?We suspect it is a pre?planned murder. The injured Anil has been shifted to a private hospital and his statement recorded. Two special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the assailants,? a police officer said. Investigators disclosed that the couple had moved to the city a few years ago, with Anil working as a contractor in a roller mill. Police suspect previous enmity involving known persons of Meena Devi may have led to the crime.
A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered.
