An elderly woman was allegedly duped by cyber fraudsters to the tune of Rs 2.60 lakh in the guise of a dry fruits home delivery service in Sanathnagar.

The complainant recently came across an Instagram advertisement offering dry fruits for home delivery. She ordered dry fruits worth Rs 1,700 and made the payment online. Soon after, she received a call from the same number.

According to the police, the caller allegedly told her that the parcel would be delivered

through cash on delivery and that the Rs 1,700 already paid would be refunded. “The fraudster then sent her a QR code and asked her to scan it. After doing so, Rs 21,700 was debited from her bank account,” police officials said.

The caller further assured her that the amount would also be refunded and sent another QR code. On scanning it, another Rs 43,000 was debited. The fraudsters continued the same process several times and allegedly siphoned off a total of Rs 2.6 lakh from her account.
