A woman killed her 14-year-old daughter following an argument at their home in Kothur. The incident came to light after the mother initially tried to pass off the death as suicide, according to police.
Police said the woman, identified as Vijayalakshmi, and her husband, auto-rickshaw driver Muyyadi Raju, have three daughters. Their eldest daughter, Suvarchala, was studying Class 9 at a government high school.
According to the police, Vijayalakshmi, who was addicted to toddy, frequently quarrelled with her daughter. On Saturday, October 27, the two had an
argument, following which the mother allegedly killed the girl. The mother then allegedly tried to make the death appear to be a suicide.
She called her husband, and both took the girl to a government hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The father initially believed that the girl had died due to stomach pain.
Police registered a case and grew suspicious of the mother's role. Following the post-mortem examination and further questioning, the woman confessed to killing her daughter, saying she was angry because the girl did not listen to her and spoke on the phone.
