An amphibious excavator and an earth mover were deployed at Durgam Cheruvu to clean the water body and remove the weeds and hyacinth. The unhygienic status of the popular lake in the IT corridor of the city was recently highlighted by ‘Telangana Today’.
A day after the Hydraa commissioner, A V Ranganath, visited Durgam Cheruvu along with HMWSSB, Irrigation and GHMC officials, the removal of weeds and water hyacinth commenced on
Wednesday.
On the other side, efforts began to lay the sewerage line to prevent sewage water from entering the Cheruvu. Though the HMWSSB built a sewerage treatment plant at Durgam Cheruvu, officials failed to divert sewage water to STP, which caused highly polluted and stinking.
The Hydraa official also directed HMWSSB officials to collect and test water samples from Durgam Cheruvu after laying of sewerage line was completed, to reveal the fact that the water is clean.
