JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar said that he is fighting for freedom from atrocities, increasing saffronisation and Brahmanical practices. Addressing a seminar on constituional rights at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here on Thursday, he said “This country belongs to B R Ambedkar. I respect each and every person who is with me in this movement. It is very important for us to understand that Rohit Vemula’s fight is not just to stop the atrocities occurring at the university but to stop discrimination across the country.”
He said that many old people are participating in this event and a few years back if we told them that water would be sold they would have laughed at us but today that is the truth of the nation. Many years back the upper castes never allowed the people belonging to the lower castes touch their wells and now this is being done by selling water in bottles which is inaccessible to the poor. “You may be a Ambedkarite fighting for Dalit rights, an adivasi or a Marxist.
But if your fight is against inequality then we are fighting for the same cause. This movement is a fight for dignity, fight against poverty and a fight against oppression. We may belong to any religion but we all deserve to be treated equally. The day we are treated as equals B R Ambedkar’s dreams would be fulfilled,” said Kumar. Kanhaiya Kumar said, “Fights need to be centralised. We all say that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is against the minority, but I feel BJP is against the majority.
The rich are

the minority being a part of only 0.5 per cent of the population and the budget concentrates only on this minority.” The JNUSU president said, “I would like to question the Prime Minister Narendra Modi why did he come and show the poor people a dream that everything would change when he did not want to do anything for the poor.” He said, “I am not against Modi. I am just speaking for JNU, for Rohit and for HCU.
This country does not belong to one caste or one language. We as Indians need to accept everything. We will continue our movement to remove all the evils and the fire for revelation will continue to burn inside us.” The JNUSU president even highlighted that the Indian flag is not just saffron, the same way the country does not just belong to people of a certain class or religion. He even said that the students and the people involved in this movement are martyrs and nothing can weaken their resolve.
A shoe was hurled at the JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar by a hostile element while he was addressing a seminar at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here on Thursday. Two persons identified as Pavan and Naresh Kumar sparked trouble at the seminar intended to discuss constitutional rights. They screamed Bharat Mata ki Jai after throwing the shoe on stage.
Their actions created a ruckus with people immediately attacking the duo. The police present at the occasion immediately dragged them away from the fuming crowd and removed them from the premises with great difficulty.
