Water released from Yellampalli project

Peddapalli: Water Resource Department officials lifted eight flood gates of the Sripada Yellampalli Project (SYP) in Ramagundam on Tuesday to release Godavari waters.

Officials said 82,672 cusecs of water was being discharged downstream through the eight flood gates that had been lifted to a height of two metres. The project was receiving inflows of 83,345 cusecs from the upper reaches as of 7 am on Tuesday, following the



incessant rains during the last few days. To maintain the water level in the reservoir, authorities had lifted four floodgates to a height ot 0.5 metres to release about 11,773 cusecs of  into Godavari late on Monday night.

Later, the discharge height was increased to two metres. At present, the project is holding 19.14 tmc of water against its gross storage capacity of 20.17 tmc.
