The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has now decided to commission three service reservoirs to meet the water demand of this belt. These areas are located on the peripheries of the Greater Hyderabad Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

The reservoirs that are likely to be commissioned by next week have been constructed at Hydernagar, HUDA Park and Hafeezpet. While initially , Hydernagar did not have any water network and was identified as an “unserved“ area by the water board, officials have now constructed a 14 million litre (ML) capacity reservoir to serve the surrounding areas. So far, this zone has been entirely dependent on water tankers.

The areas that will benefit from the Hydernagar reservoir are: Allwyn Colony , Chandanagar, BHEL

Enclave, Prashanti Nagar, HUDA Chandanagar, Guru Krupa Nagar and other adjoining areas. The water board has laid distribution networks measuring 10,044 kilometers in these areas to facilitate the supply of potable water.

Similarly at HUDA Park, the board has built a 3 ML-capacity reservoir to serve 20 areas around the site. Nearly 40,000 households are expected to receive water supply from this reservoir, officials said. The third reservoir at Hafeezpet, officials said, was built to contain 6 ML of water and supply to a population of close to 50,000. The move is likely to bring much relief to residents here who have drawing their entire supply from groundwater this far. Considering the fast depleting levels of the water table, supplies have been grossly affected in this area, in recent times.
