TSIC hackathon from Sept 28

Sat 18 Sep 2021, 11:40:22
Telangana State Innovation Cell (TSIC) in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Amherst – Data Analytics and Computational Social Sciences (DCASS) will organise a three-day Data for Social Good-Hackathon. This will be open for students from science, technology, engineering and math and social sciences fields across India. It is scheduled from September 28 to October 1. J-Hub, the incubator of JNTU-Hyderabad, is the knowledge partner.

This hackathon aims to inculcating and sensitising young minds to using data for social good by analysing data sets on sustainable development goals (SDGs) to generate evidence-based insights. “As student community plays a huge role in addressing social problems, programmes aiming to inculcate social innovation perspectives among them are crucial in the current times. This hackathon will enable students on using technology for social good,” said IT Principal Secretary Jayesh

Ranjan.

The hackathon looks at analysing the performance of Telangana State across the identified 17 SDGs. It also allows students to choose one of the shortlisted SDGs and analyse the given data sets. Each team can have one to four students.

“This hackathon is to allow students tinker beyond usual usage of data analytics, and provide an international platform for them to showcase their research experience,” said Dr Shanta Thoutam, Chief Innovation Officer, TSIC.

Students can apply for the hackathon at teamtsic.telangana.gov.in/data-for-social-good-hackathon/ by September 20. Winning teams will get an opportunity to present their findings at Annual UMass Homecoming Research Symposium and have their work featured on the DACSS research website. At the State level, the teams will get to submit their findings to the relevant State Government departments, a release said.
