Traffic regulation being imposed on PVNR Expressway from Wednesday, motorists from Shamshabad Airport towards Mehdipatnam are being made to take the carriageway beneath the structure.

The traffic from Mehdipatnam towards the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad is being permitted as usual. The regulation will be in place till further notice by the traffic police.

Vehicles movement is regulated on the four-lane structure to facilitate the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) take up recarpeting works on the entire expressway. Initially, it was announced that traffic will be regulated from April 22.

But after traffic police insisted that HMDA take up repairs on service roads beneath the structure and set up barricades and signboards to alert motorists on the traffic regulation, the decision to impose regulation was deferred to Wednesday.

Since the expressway was inaugurated in 2009, this is the first time recarpeting works for the structure is taken up, and is costing Rs.9

Till all these works are completed, traffic will be permitted from Mehdipatnam to the airport on the expressway. Two lanes on one side of the 11.6 km structure will be milled and then BT recarpeting works will be taken up. This will be followed with the same exercise on the other two lanes.

After the two lanes are re-carpeted, traffic from the airport end will be permitted on these two lanes and works on the other two lanes will be taken up simultaneously.

“On Wednesday, survey was conducted to check the undulation and the required measurements to fix the uneven surfaces for milling in the machine,” said a senior official.
