Traffic Police issue Sankranti advisory as Sankranti rush begins

In view of the Sankranti rush, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory anticipating heavy vehicular movement in the city during the festival period.

Traffic officials said traffic volumes are expected to surge between January 9 and 13 due to large-scale travel towards Andhra Pradesh and various districts of Telangana. Similarly, return traffic is likely to peak between January 16 and 19.

According to the advisory, congestion is expected around major transport hubs such as Kacheguda and Secunderabad railway stations because of increased passenger arrivals, frequent pick-ups and drops, auto and cab movement as well as pedestrian flow.

Several arterial routes are also likely to witness slow-moving traffic. These include



the MGBS-Aramghar corridor via Afzalgunj, City College, Puranapul and Bahadurpura, the SR Nagar-Lakdikapul stretch, and the Rethibowli-Aramghar route through Attapur.

Officials said festival travel, inter-city vehicles and heavy bus operations are likely to add to congestion on these roads.

Other stretches where delays are anticipated include Kacheguda-Ramanthapur and MGBS-Dilsukhnagar, mainly due to increased local traffic, autos, buses and signalised junctions.

Traffic police have requested citizens to plan their journeys in advance, avoid peak hours wherever possible and opt for alternate routes and public transport.

A traffic helpline – 9010203626 has also been activated to assist the citizens during emergencies.
