TPCC president contradicts Congress manifesto, promise 'Two lakh jobs'

In what has been termed blatant deceit, the Congress party has denied promising two lakh government jobs to unemployed youth in the first year of its term in the State, triggering sharp criticism from various sections.

TPCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud denied making such a promise during an interview, claiming that the assurance was to provide two lakh jobs over the five-year term of the Congress government. When he said the government would give two lakh jobs in three years, the interviewer reminded him that the promise was to offer two lakh government jobs in the first year. However, Goud denied the commitment, which is clearly mentioned in the Congress manifesto as Clause A of Serial Number 2 of the Hyderabad Youth Declaration on the ninth page of the document.

“We promised two lakh jobs in our entire term. We did not promise like Modi, who said annually two crore jobs. We specifically said that two lakh jobs will be offered during our term,” Goud claimed.

president’s denial evoked sharp criticism from various quarters, particularly social media users. “Going back on our word is our birthright,” an X user, Baddam Gopal Reddy, said sarcastically.

Apart from failing to fulfil the manifesto promise, the Congress government has also not kept its word on releasing an annual job calendar. In the manifesto, the Congress had assured that an annual job calendar, listing vacancies across all departments, would be released every year by June 2, with recruitments to be completed by September 17.

Following pressure from opposition parties and unemployed youth, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka released a job calendar in the Assembly on August 2, 2024, for the year 2024–25. The calendar mentioned tentative months for issuing notifications and conducting examinations.

However, the Congress government has failed to carry out recruitments as per the calendar. The exercise was limited to one year, and no such calendar has been released for 2025–26.
