Mulugu: Three Maoists were killed in an encounter with the police in Venkatapuram (Nuguru) mandal close to Chattishgarh border in Mulugu district in the early hours of Tuesday.

Sources said a constable of Greyhounds, the elite anti-Naxal squad of Telangana State, sustained injuries in the incident. It is suspected that divisional level leaders of the outlawed CPI Maoists were killed in the exchange of fire between police and



Maoists as an INSAS assault rifle had been reportedly recovered from the encounter site.

When contacted, Mulugu SP Sangram Singh Ganpat Rao Patil said he was to yet to receive complete information about the incident. “Our combing parties are still there in the forests on the Chattisgarh-Telangana State border. The operation is still underway. We will give details later,” he added.
