Raichur district Cyber Crime police have busted an online loan fraud racket operating from a rented house in the city and arrested three persons, seizing electronic devices and vehicles used in the crime.
Police said the accused were running the racket from a house in Lakshana Layout, located behind the Government Polytechnic College. They had taken the premises on rent on the ground floor of a house.
According to investigators, the trio lured people by promising to arrange online loans. They allegedly collected Aadhaar cards, bank passbooks and other documents from victims, generated QR codes using multiple SIM cards, and got money transferred into various bank
accounts. However, no loans were provided, and the victims were cheated.
Based on credible information, a case was registered at the Raichur cyber crime police station on April 21 under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation was launched.
Acting under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri, a team led by DySP Shantaveer E, along with PSI Prakash Dambal and other staff, conducted a raid and arrested the accused.
The arrested have been identified as Mahesh Chillal (27), Veeresh (24), and Prabhu (34), all residents of Rukkapur in Surpur taluk of Yadgir district.
