The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) directed the State government to urgently release irrigation water to farmers under the Ghanapur Anicut in Sangareddy district, where nearly 20,000 acres of paddy are at risk.

In an interim order, the Commission, headed by Justice Shameem Akther, expressed concern about the non-release of water, posing a threat to farmers’

livelihoods and dignity under Article 21.

Invoking provisions of the Protection of Human Rights Act, the Commission asked the Chief Secretary to ensure the release of 0.30 TMCft water from the Singur Project to the Vanadurga Project for 12 days. The panel also sought a compliance report by April 30, warning of irreparable crop loss if immediate action is not taken.
