The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has issued improvement notices to 20 sweet manufacturing and retail establishments and a show-cause notice to another unit following inspections conducted across the State.

Food Safety Officers collected 38 samples on suspicion of adulteration during the special drive, officials said.

During the inspections, officials found several hygiene and food safety violations, including damaged flooring, food waste littering premises, unclean washing areas, drains clogged with food waste and walls stained with dust and food spillage.

Some establishments had failed to maintain essential records, including pest control documentation and health records of

food handlers. Food handlers were also found working without hairnets and gloves, while exhaust systems and chimneys were greasy.

Improper storage practices were noticed, including food articles being stored directly on the floor and food items being kept alongside non-food articles, the officials pointed out.

The 20 establishments were issued improvement notices directing them to rectify the deficiencies. Officials will reinspect the units to verify compliance with food safety norms, and further action will be taken based on the findings.

A show-cause notice was also issued to one establishment for the violations detected during the inspections, with further proceedings to impose penalties to follow, the press note said.
