Tension prevailed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Monday after a bomb threat was received for a British Airways flight (BA 277) arriving from London.

As per available information, an anonymous person had sent an email to the aviation authorities claiming that a bomb had been planted on the aircraft that landed in Hyderabad at 5.30 am, carrying about 212 passengers on board.

Authorities immediately evacuated

all passengers safely and cordoned off the aircraft. The CISF bomb disposal squads and local police carried out extensive checks, but no explosives were found as claimed.

Officials later confirmed it was a hoax threat. It was only then that the passengers and the aircraft and airport authorities sighed in relief. The RGIA police registered a case and took up an investigation to trace the sender of the threatening email.
