The State ST Welfare Department has undertaken planting of 4.6 lakh trees in all the Tribal Welfare Residential Schools under the ongoing sixth phase of Haritha Haram programme. ST Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod and Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy took part at a tree plantation programme in the premises of IAS study circle in Rajendranagar here on Tuesday.

“The Chief Minister has created a very nice atmosphere for the tribal youth to prepare for top entrance examinations including the UPSC exams. By growing more trees in the campus here, we are trying to further improve the greenery that would benefit the future generations too,” Rathod said.

Sabitha Indra Reddy while appreciating the efforts of the ST Welfare department to plant 4.6 lakh plants on a single day, called upon everyone to participate in Haritha Haram so that the green cover in the State would reach 33 percent from 24 percent as envisaged by the Chief Minister. She recalled that the Chief Minister has declared that the government would plant 230 crore trees in the State at the time of taking oath has Chief Minister.

She further said that the government has set up nurseries at all village panchayats and allocated 10 percent of the budget so that 6000 saplings are nurtured in each nursery and all the saplings planted in the village are protected so that they survive. 

“Everyone must take up planting trees and protecting them as their social responsibility. Every citizen must follow the “Each One Plant” slogan given by IT Minister KT Rama Rao,” she said. She advised that one must make a habit of gifting saplings in occasions such as marriages and birthdays.

Local MLA Prakash Goud, Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society secretary RS Praveen Kumar and Commissioner Christina Z Chongtu were also present.
