Telangana stands second in the country in dealing with human trafficking cases.
As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data released recently, in 2023, Telangana police booked 336 cases, while Maharashtra topped with 388 cases. Across the country, police booked 2,183 cases against human traffickers during the year.
A total of 6,288 persons, including 3,787 women, were rescued across the country by the police. In Telangana, police rescued 626 persons, including 604 women. According to the report, 597
women were trafficked for prostitution. Telangana also managed to rescue four Bangladeshi women and five women from other States.
An official of the Women’s Wing of Telangana police, which coordinates with the Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs), said there has been further improvement in the performance of the AHTUs across the State. “The teams are regularly conducting raids against human trafficking gangs and rescuing women and children. Our aim is to make Telangana free from human trafficking,” said the senior official.
