With an aim to prevent tragic incidents due to the use of Chinese-made nylon thread, the Telangana police have taken up a massive awareness campaign to inform people about the consequences of using the nylon string.
The police are taking to social media platforms to dissuade people from selling, buying or using Chinese manja during the Sankranthi festival.
The Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, himself took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to request people not to use the nylon thread for kite flying, terming it dangerous to human lives.
In the
last few days, there have been a handful of incidents in which people suffered cuts on their necks after getting entangled in nylon threads on city roads.
The police, on the other hand, are also taking steps to enforce the ban on the sale of nylon thread. Police across the State have conducted raids at multiple places and confiscated Chinese manja on a small scale.
Meanwhile, the forest department has taken up an awareness campaign following incidents of birds getting entangled in manja and dying. The campaign is being conducted across the State with the help of social media platforms
