For a couple from Telangana’s Suryapet district, thousands of kilometres could not keep them from being part of their daughter’s wedding. Unable to travel to the US, they joined the ceremony virtually and took part in the traditional rituals through a livestream.

Their only daughter, Himabindu, who is based in the US, married Rohith Kumar, a native of NTR district, on Friday night. The two met while living in the US, fell in love and eventually decided to get married.

However,

Himabindu’s parents, Jayaraju and Jyothi, could not be at the wedding venue in person. Instead, they watched the ceremony online and participated in the celebrations from Telangana.

During the wedding rituals, the couple picked up akshintalu, the sacred rice traditionally used to bless newlyweds, and showered it towards the screen as Himabindu and Rohith exchanged their vows.

The virtual ritual allowed the parents to perform an important part of their daughter’s wedding despite being far away.
