Telangana movement activists here have demanded that the State government either fulfil the promises made to them or permit them to end their lives abruptly, expressing deep anguish over the government’s inaction.
Activists under the aegis of the Telangana Udyamakarula Forum observed a one-day deeksha at the Collectorate on Monday, highlighting their unmet demands.
Speaking at the protest, the activists said they had supported the Congress party during the 2023 Assembly elections based on its assurance of
allotting 250 square feet of land and a monthly pension of Rs.25,000 to Telangana movement activists. However, after coming to power, the government neither showed concern nor took steps to address their welfare.
They demanded that the Congress-led State government immediately act on its commitments and warned that they would launch a public debate on the party’s failure to honour its word. They also cautioned that activists would teach a “befitting lesson” in the upcoming local body elections if the promises remained unfulfilled.
