As prices have hit the century mark in many cities, motorists are either cutting down on their commute or finding alternate ways to deal with the problem.

One man from Telangana has come up with an innovative way to insulate himself from the rise in petrol price.

Kurapati Vidyasagar has replaced the petrol engine of his 15-year-old Bajaj motorcycle with batteries, a converter and a motor to turn it into an electric bike.

A television mechanic by profession, Vidyasagar made the changes himself after having first thought about it in 2020, according to media report.  

The 42-year-old added four 30-ah 12-volt batteries by investing Rs 10,000. He even bought an electric bike conversion kit comprising 48V motor, and converter by spending another Rs 7,500.

Once he had all the



necessary parts, he replaced the petrol engine of his bike with batteries and a motor with the help of a two-wheeler mechanic.

Now, he has a 2-wheeler that at only Rs 0.2 per km.

"In all, I spent about Rs 20,000 but this is helping me save Rs.3,000 every month as I no longer need to buy petrol," Vidyasagar said.

He added that he used to buy 1-1.5 litres of petrol every day. Now, he is covering the same distance of 50-60 km every day by paying much less.

Vidyasagar charges his vehicle for five hours every day. He says it is good enough to cover 50-60 km. He now plans to ensure that the charging of the bike with a dynamo while on the move.

"It can help prevent pollution and safe, but it can run up to a maximum speed of 25-30 kmph. If you increase the weight, the speed comes down further," he said
