Telangana Minister Vakiti Srihari on Monday said the state government is encouraging sportspersons and taking measures to win gold medals at global events like the Olympics.

Speaking at an event at LB Stadium here as part of the state government's 99-day special development programme, which began on March 6, he said the government had recently conducted various sports competitions under the "CM Cup," in which 3.5 lakh children from the village level participated.

The event aimed to encourage children to take up sports and to promote talented young athletes,

he said.

The government is emphasising improving sports infrastructure and facilities and encouraging coaches, he added. The sports minister said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy envisions a state where children and youth steer clear of drugs and other vices and actively pursue sports.

It is our resolve that Telangana should win gold medals at the Olympics.

The government will encourage all talented and upcoming sportspersons to excel not only at the national level but also at the international level, he said.
