Public Health Department, Telangana, on Thursday issued an advisory urging the general public to take precautions from the rising temperature.

Given the weather forecast of a gradual rise in the maximum temperature by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during the next 3 days, Dr B Ravinder Nayak, DPH, Telangana, urged people to stay indoors as much as possible and avoid venturing out, especially between 12 noon and 3 pm.

People should watch out for heat stroke danger signs, including nausea, vomiting, hot, red and dry skin, body temperature of more than 104, throbbing headache, rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, altered mental sensorium with disorientation, agitation and seizure.

Dos and Don’ts during summer:

Hydration:

• Use Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS)

• Consume the homemade drinks like lemon water, butter milk/fruit juices





Homemade ORS: One litre of drinking water, six level teaspoons of sugar and half a level teaspoon of salt. Stir well until all components are dissolved

• Carry water during the travelling time

• Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content, like watermelon, musk melon, oranges, grapes, pineapples, and cucumbers

• Wear loose cotton garments, preferably light coloured ones

• Use an umbrella/hat /cap/ towel as traditional headgear to avoid sunlight

• Keep windows/curtains closed during the day, especially on the sunny side of the house

Don’ts:

• Avoid strenuous activities in the afternoon

• Avoid cooking during peak hours

• Avoid consuming alcohol/ tea/coffee/carbonated soft drinks

• Avoid high-protein, salty, spicy and oily food
