The proposed Telangana Lifts, Escalators and Moving Walks Act, 2025 is currently in its final approval stage, pending official enactment. The Bill will soon be placed before the Cabinet and later tabled in the State Legislature for approval.

The draft comes in the wake of frequent lift accidents across the state and following directions from the Telangana High Court. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy approved the draft on June 25. It will now be sent to the Cabinet for consideration after clearance from the

Law Department.

The High Court was hearing a PIL that sought government action on issues caused by faulty lifts and elevators. The petition sought directions to ensure public safety and urged the state to create a statutory framework for the installation, maintenance, and safe operation of lifts.

The HC expressed displeasure over the delay in enacting a law to regulate the safety of lifts and escalators in the state, and directed the government to file a fresh affidavit on its progress.
