Telangana Govt announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for kin of rain victims

The State government has decided to offer an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the recent rains and to extend compensation to farmers who lost their cattle.

At a review meeting on the rains and damages here on Monday, officials informed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy that, as per preliminary estimates, crops in about 2.36 lakh acres were damaged in 82 mandals. The Chief Minister wanted the agriculture department to submit a comprehensive report on the losses suffered for submitting the same to the union government.

Similarly, officials informed that 257 tanks suffered breaches. The Chief Minister asked officials to utilise funds under different union government schemes and programmes and to take up repairs and restoration works at the



minor irrigation projects. The Chief Minister also pulled up the officials for failing to utilise the State Disaster Response Funds as per prescribed guidelines.

He asked them to prepare a detailed report on the assistance to be received from the union government on the damages suffered due to heavy rains last year and a separate report on the department-wise losses suffered due to rains this year.

“Both these two reports will be submitted to the union government by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka delegation on Thursday,” Revanth Reddy said.

The Chief Minister said Rs 10 crore would be sanctioned to districts which suffered heavy damages and Rs 5 crore to those that suffered moderate damages for taking up repair and restoration works.
