Announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of six persons who were electrocuted while taking part in a Shobha Yatra at Ramanthapur, IT Minister Sridhar Babu said the accident was caused by live current passing through a cable wire.

The Minister, who visited Gandhi Hospital on Monday to check on patients undergoing treatment and interact with the

bereaved family members, said the entire medical expenses of the injured will be borne by the government.

“This incident is extremely tragic and unfortunate, and I extend my deep condolences to the families of the deceased. It is all the more distressing that the mishap occurred when the Shobha Yatra was just 100 meters from its conclusion,” Sridhar Babu said.
