Telangana Congress forms four-member Ministers’ committee to examine 42% BC reservation

The Telangana Congress has constituted a four-member Ministers’ committee to explore the possibility of extending 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes (BCs) in the State.

The committee comprises Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister D Anasuya, and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Since the matter on 42 percent BC reservations is currently under consideration in the Supreme Court, the committee will examine all available legal provisions. It is expected to submit its report by August 26, following which the issue will be taken up in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for August 29.

The decision was taken at the TPCC Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting



held at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Ministers and senior leaders attended the meeting.

Briefing the media, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the State government was committed to extending reservations to BCs. He added that the meeting also discussed the conduct of local body elections, the Jubilee Hills bypoll, filling of nominated posts, and an aggressive campaign against “vote theft” in the State.

Earlier in the day, the AICC in-charge, the TPCC president, and several Ministers met at the Chief Minister’s residence. The meeting reviewed Speaker G. Prasad Kumar’s notices to BRS defected MLAs and deliberated on strategies to address the issue, according to party sources.
