The State Cabinet has approved DISCOMs’ proposals to join the Union government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to improve the power sector and service to consumers.
Briefing newsmen after the cabinet meeting, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the erstwhile BRS government had signed a tripartite agreement on January 2, 2017.
It was signed between the Union Ministry of Power, Government of Telangana and TSSPDCL to improve the sector. However, despite signing the agreement, the BRS government had not implemented it, the minister said
“This is not a new decision taken by the Congress government,” the minister sought to assert while reminding that the
meters component does not arise due to this decision.
The minister, in effect, sought to allay apprehensions that meters would be fixed to the agricultural pump sets, which the BRS had been staunchly opposing.
In another decision, the cabinet approved the sanction of Rs 587 crore for land acquisition for Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. The Minister said the second phase of the Indiramma Housing Scheme would be launched on June 1 at Asifabad.
In this phase, a total of 2.5 lakh houses would be allocated and it has been decided to allot 2000 houses for each assembly constituency. The rules implemented in the first phase would be followed in the second phase as well, he said.
