Telangana braces for another wet week as new weather system forms over Bay of Bengal

Just as people in Telangana were heaving a sigh of relief after three days of incessant rains, a fresh threat of yet another major rainfall event has emerged for the coming week.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)–New Delhi has indicated the likelihood of a new low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal around October 1 to 2 and causing widespread rain during the first week of October.

In its Sunday forecast, the IMD-Hyderabad has predicted heavy rains between October 2 and 4 in many places across the State. Between September 29 and October 1,

The new Low-Pressure Area (LPA) is expected to bring a spell of fairly widespread rainfall with chances of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in Telangana.

Meanwhile, following heavy rains that pummeled Hyderabad and districts in the last three to four days, Telangana as on September 28, had recorded excess rainfall. According to Telangana State Development Planning Society (TGDPS) rainfall data, the actual rainfall in Telangana till September 28 is stood at 98.48 cm, against the normal of 73.11 cm.
