In a major boost to medical aspirants in Telangana, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase of 810 MBBS seats for the 2026–27 academic year. With this addition, the total number of MBBS seats in the state has risen from 8,840 to 9,650.
According to the latest seat matrix released by the NMC, the newly added seats include 110 in government medical colleges, 600 in private institutions and 100 in deemed
universities. These seats will be filled through the NEET counselling process for the current academic year.
The expansion also includes district-level increases. In Nizamabad, the Government Medical College has been allotted 30 additional seats, taking the total intake to 150. The college, which began in 2013 with 100 seats, had earlier been expanded to 120. Authorities are also awaiting approval for 17 more postgraduate seats across various departments.
