A Swedish national created a flutter on an Indigo flight, which landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, on Friday and later at Osmania General Hospital, where he tried to escape from police custody.

The episode began unfolding around 8.50 am after the Hyderabad-bound IndiGo flight 6E 744 from Goa landed at RGIA. Vetterstedt Seger Alexander, according to airport sources, began to create nuisance on the plane before the passengers could disembark. He got out of the washroom without any clothes, taking the aircraft crew and other passengers by surprise.

The flight crew tried to pacify him, but he did not stop. As he did not budge, the crew alerted the Central Industrial Security Force at RGIA, who detained him and rushed him to Osmania General Hospital (OGH). The flight later left for Coimbatore.

At OGH, Alexander, who was found to be holding an Indian passport,

reportedly refused treatment and did not cooperate with the hospital staff. Senior doctors at the emergency ward administered basic medication and transferred him to the jail ward. He also made an attempt to escape, according to Afzalgunj Inspector P Gynanender Reddy. But, the hospital staff managed to overpower him and detain him. “We are doing our best to provide all possible treatment facilities to him. We will continue to provide him with treatment,” OGH Superintendent Dr. B Nagender said.

“The hospital staff tried to take his blood samples to ascertain if he was under the influence of drugs. But, he did not cooperate,” the Inspector said, adding that the Swedish national was also suffering from a skin ailment. Indications are that he could be shifted to the Erragadda Institute of Mental Health on Saturday, but the police are yet to confirm this.
