BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha on Tuesday alleged that the ruling Congress was rigging votes, intimidating voters and unleashing rowdy elements across the Jubilee Hills constituency during the ongoing byelection.

She urged voters to step out in large numbers and exercise their franchise to keep criminals out of the constituency.

Speaking to the media, Sunitha said voters were being threatened not to step out of their homes if they were not inclined to vote for the Congress.

Rowdy sheeters

are roaming freely. People are being threatened that they would not be allowed to move out if they do not vote for the Congress. Is this democracy?” she asked, urging the police to act impartially.

The BRS leader said she was being followed by groups of men wherever she went, calling it an attack on a woman’s dignity and an attempt to intimidate her.

“Wherever I go, a gang of around a hundred people is following me. The police have remained silent spectators. Is it a crime to be a woman in politics?” she questioned.
