A sub-inspector was booked for allowing his six-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter to drive his car on a public road in Narsingi. His name is being withheld to protect the minor’s identity.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the Gandhamguda–Bairagiguda Road. Following the incident, the Narsingi police registered a case against the sub-inspector under the BNS for rash and negligent act that endangers life and safety along with provisions of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act against permitting an unauthorised person to drive and dangerous driving-related
violations.
The vehicle owner had six pending traffic challans with fines totalling Rs 4,010. The violations included three instances of overspeeding, one stop-line violation, one lane-crossing offence and one case of stopping in a prohibited area.
The pending violations were recorded between May 2020 and October 2024 across Hyderabad and Mahbubnagar districts.
The Narsingi police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which the child was allowed to drive the vehicle. Action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police said.
