A large number of students, activists and members of various communities participated in a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on Sunday.

The dharna was organised by the Students’ Islamic Organisation (SIO), the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) and several other organisations under the banner of ‘People Against SIR – Telangana for Democracy’.

The protesters demanded the immediate

withdrawal of the SIR, alleging that the exercise could result in the exclusion of eligible voters from the electoral rolls. They called for a fair, transparent and accountable revision process to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of the right to vote.

The participants also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the repeal of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023.
