The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is now installing She toilets at different places, especially at tourist spots. One such facility will be launched near Charminar on Friday by GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and Mayor B. Rammohan.
Under the e-toilets initiative, the GHMC is planning to install at least 50 She toilets at different places across the city, focusing on public places like bus stops. Apart from She toilets, the municipal corporation is also installing He toilets at different locations. These toilets will be user-friendly and ensure cleanliness and hygiene. Giving details, a senior GHMC official said these toilets would be equipped with self-flushing and automatic cleaning system and would be exclusive for men and women.
They support on-site waste

treatment using advanced systems like anaerobic bio-degradation, besides using less water. More importantly, they burn down any cloth or sanitary pad dropped in the toilets and this helps in avoiding choking of sewer lines. They do not require regular manual cleaning and maintenance, he said.
The She Toilets cost about Rs.7 lakh each, while the He Toilets come at Rs.6.20 lakh. Given the expenditure involved in setting up these facilities, the municipal corporation has decided to rope in corporates to sponsor the installation of such toilets under corporate social responsibility activities. Already, the State Bank of Hyderabad, Indian Oil Corporation, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, HUDCO and other organisations have extended their support to GHMC in establishing the facilities.
