The Secunderabad Railway station has won the national Tourism Award as the most tourist friendly station on Indian Railways.

Amit Varadan, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad and D. Vasudeva Reddy, Station Director, Secunderabad Railway Station received the award from Union Minister of State for Tourism KJ Alphons at Vigyan Bhavan on Thursday.

The Secunderabad Railway Station was built by the Nizam of Hyderabad State in 1874. The station building resembles a fort and is one of the tourist attractions with access to locations like Golconda fort, Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Birla Mandir etc.

On an average 210 trains are dealt with at Secunderabad Railway station with an



average daily footfall of 1.8 lakh passengers. Facilities like air-conditioned waiting halls, waiting halls for women and general passengers, food plaza, retiring rooms, escalators, elevators, free Wi-Fi, 100% Digital payment and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines are provided for the convenience of passengers.

Secunderabad is the first and only station on Indian Railways to be awarded with the green “Platinum Rating” by the Indian Green Building Council of CII. Features like 100% LED fixtures, 1 MW solar plant, CO2 sensor & air purifier in AC waiting halls, 5-star rated electrical appliances, a 5-lakh litre-sewerage treatment plant, mechanised laundry for linen washing and waterless urinals are unique to the station.
