Polling for the second phase of elections to Sarpanch and Ward Members posts commenced in several districts across the State on Sunday.

Though polling began at 7 a.m., voter turnout was initially bleak in many villages due to chilly weather conditions. Officials, however, expressed confidence that the polling percentage would improve as voting continued through the day.

Voting will



continue till 1 pm, while counting of votes will begin from 2 pm onwards. The results will be declared accordingly.

In the second phase of gram panchayat elections, polling is being conducted for 3,911 Sarpanches and 29,903 ward members. The State Election Commission had notified elections for 4,333 Sarpanches and 38,322 ward member posts, of which 415 Sarpanches and 8,304 ward members were elected unanimously.
