South Central Railway (SCR) has created a record of sorts by ferrying 1.24 lakh passengers from Secunderabad railway station, including 96,000 unreserved passengers, second highest unreserved passenger turnout in the history of the station, on Wednesday.

According to SCR officials, it was during this year Sankrathi season, on January 12, Secunderabad station registered a highest number of 97,000 unreserved passengers. The station recorded the travelling of around 96,000 unreserved passengers and 28,000 reserved passengers totalling to 1.24 lakh passengers on Wednesday.

A total of 2.41 lakh unreserved passengers and 97,512 reserved passengers totalling to 3.38 lakh passengers travelled from Secunderabad railway station to various destinations between Monday and Wednesday.

During the same time, a total number of 70,231 passengers have travelled from Hyderabad railway station, 85,382 passengers travelled from Lingampalli railway station and 64,377 passengers from Kacheguda railway station.

Overall, 4,32 lakh unreserved passengers and 1.25 lakh reserved passengers



totalling to 5,58,548 passengers travelled to their respective destinations from the four important railway stations of the city.

To clear the passenger rush, a total of 23 special trains were operated during the last three days along with 151 regular trains every day to various destinations while 35 additional coaches were attached to various regular trains from the city towards Vijayawada, Kakinada, Narsapur, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam Road and Tirupati.

In addition, SCR has announced running of seven Jansadharan special trains and 10 special fare trains on April 11, 12, 13 and 14 from Kakinada, Narsapur, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Machilipatnam to the city on the days when people are expected to return back.

SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya complemented the efforts of officers and staff at ensuring smooth passage of all the trains and comfortable journey to the passengers. Appropriate action plans are made to facilitate traffic in the return direction also, as per the demands of the situation, the SCR said in a press release.
