The Saifabad police, in coordination with the Central Crime Station (CCS), cracked a theft case and arrested two persons apart from recovering 173 pieces of gold and diamond jewellery worth about Rs 1.5 crore on Thursday.

The arrested suspects were identified as Ronak Chadawa (24), a marketing executive with Shanaya Diamonds, and Mohd Hasnain Habiya (22), a student from Mumbai. Both had incurred heavy losses in IPL betting and

conspired to commit the theft.

According to the police, the theft occurred on September 5 at Vijay Shankar Lal Jewellers in Basheerbagh. Following a complaint filed on September 7, the police launched an investigation and, acting on credible information, nabbed the suspects near the Nampally railway station.

The stolen ornaments were recovered intact. The suspects were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
