Road construction works have come to a standstill in the old city due to continuous rains, causing severe inconvenience to residents in several areas.

Contractors had dug up roads for reconstruction ahead of the forthcoming Ganesh festival in many localities. However, following incessant rainfall for the past fortnight, the works were left incomplete, affecting the daily routines of residents.

M. Pramod Reddy, a resident of Jangammet, said that three different stretches leading to the main road were dug up by contractors for road works. “It’s close to one month, and the roads have not been laid citing rains. Residents are facing problems in reaching the main thoroughfare from the locality,” said Pramod Reddy.

At the Almas Hotel stretch in Vattepally Falaknuma, a wide portion of the road was

dug up months ago for pipeline laying works. “The works were completed around a month ago, yet the authorities have not bothered to restore it. Due to this, water accumulates on the dug-up portion, turning it into a mosquito breeding ground,” complained Syed Haji, a resident of Guntal Baba Darga.

At the Fateh Darwaza junction, the road leading to Doodh Bowli was dismantled for reconstruction. However, the GHMC has not taken up the works for more than a fortnight, citing rains. “When officials know it’s the rainy season, why do they allow contractors to begin the works at this time?” questioned Miraj Khan, a resident of Fateh Darwaza.

Similar complaints have been reported from various other localities, where contractors dug up roads for reconstruction but delayed completing the works, citing rains as the reason.
