Revanth Reddy says he categorised IPS officers into A, B and C groups

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday said he had compiled profiles of IPS officers by categorising them into three groups, A, B and C, and claimed that he could recall an officer’s category just by hearing their name.

Addressing the Police Officers Retreat 2026 here on Monday, he said he had already defined the profiles while deciding postings. “I have already defined the profiles. I may be right or wrong, but I have this data,” he said.

“In the last two years, none of the officials got their postings through recommendations. Except myself, the DGP and Chief Secretary, none of the political executives or other executive officers would have any information on the postings,” he stated.

The Chief Minister instructed officers not to get into autopilot mode. While there might not be much damage if officials from other departments slipped into such a mode, it would be a grave injustice to society if police officers functioned that way, he said.

“Police department should not expect to work in auto mode and aspire for auto promotions. Shed that laidback attitude,” he said, also observing that



there were several lapses within the police department. There was a need to empower the department by effectively using available technology, he added.

“Traffic is one of the biggest challenges in Hyderabad. Physical policing is essential, but unfortunately it has vanished,” Revanth Reddy said, also stating that the annual budget planning for the next fiscal had already been completed. “Even if you ask for any budget, the planning is already done. I will check for any scope to allocate budget by reducing from other departments,” he said.

He suggested that officers organise the retreat programme annually in December so that budget allocations could be planned in advance. However, contradicting himself, the Chief Minister stressed that allocation of budget for empowering the police department was not an issue, provided IPS officers gave the confidence that the funds granted would be effectively utilised.

“We do not have the luxury to spend lavishly. In addition to the State government’s issues, the welfare commitments that I have put resulted in additional burden on the exchequer,” Revanth Reddy admitted.
