Relief as Hyderabad spared from extremely heavy rains

As night fell on Thursday, Hyderabad heaved a sigh of relief as the city was spared from the extremely heavy rains that had been forecast.

Amid incessant rainfall over the past few days, residents largely stayed indoors on Thursday, avoiding the risk of being stranded in waterlogged roads.

With a half-day holiday already declared, schools saw low attendance for the working half-day, while Hyderabad’s normally bustling IT corridors were quiet, with most employees opting to work from home.



Traffic volumes on major roads remained minimal.

For the entire day, the city and its suburbs remained under a blanket of dark clouds and light drizzles, with occasional intense showers recorded in different parts.

The impact of the previous days’ rainfall was evident, with heavy inflows into lakes and tanks causing water to spill onto roads. Authorities placed low-lying areas and those near the Musi River on high alert due to orange and red warnings forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rains.
