An incident of rats biting six female students while they were asleep took place at the Social Welfare Girls’ Gurukul hostel at Adavimalle village of Penuballi mandal in the district.
The incident that took place on Monday night caused panic among the students. The injured students were shifted to a primary health centre at Lankasagar on Tuesday. Doctors examined them and administered injections to prevent complications from the rat bites.
The students’ health condition was
being monitored. The students stated that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred at the hostel. Similar incidents had happened in the past, and the fear of rats prevented them from sleeping peacefully at night.
Parents of the students demanded that the officials immediately address issues regarding sanitation, food storage, and rodent control measures at the hostel. They wanted authorities to ensure the students’ safety and implement a permanent solution to eliminate the rat menace.
