Groundwater levels in Ranga Reddy district have hit a dangerous low, sounding immediate alarm bells for the region’s water security.
The latest groundwater report (October) showed the average groundwater level fell to 12.75 metres below ground level (m bgl) in October 2026, compared with 6.14 metres during the same period last year.
A senior GWD official said the district’s underground aquifers
had not recovered from a weak monsoon, with the crisis compounded by a lawless surge in deep-bore drilling and unsustainable domestic consumption.
The region exhausted its natural safety net before winter peaked and now faces a vulnerable countdown to a parched summer.
Thousands of domestic borewells are projected to dry up completely, forcing residents into a desperate situation, an official said.
