Hyderabad: The State government has decided to adopt QR code-based digital door numbering across the State in the coming years. To frame a fool-proof road map and also suggest modalities to implement the QR code digital door numbering system, the Principal Secretary Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), Arvind Kumar has constituted a high-level committee comprising of senior officials from different municipal wings to submit a report by October 30.

The committee would study the Digital Door Numbering initiative being practised in other cities including New Delhi, Bengaluru and Vijayawada to understand the implementation challenges, costs and timelines, Arvind Kumar said. It would also suggest how to integrate Digital Door Numbering with property tax, town planning and sanitation so that all the information can be captured through QR code system.

The different technologies available in the field along with preparing a roadmap including timelines and cost for carrying it out in the State would be looked into by the committee.

Arvind Kumar observed that over the years digital door numbering in Hyderabad and other cities has become extremely complex. It was done randomly not following any scientific basis and with each addition/division of new property, the numbering has become

even more complex, so much so that it’s almost impossible to locate the properties based on door numbering.

“Time has come that we take up door numbering in a revised, planned and scientific manner which not only simplifies the door numbering on a scientific basis where it’s not only easier to locate the house/property by looking at the number but also one integrates sanitation and town planning on QR code based system to ensure that sanitation is carried out regularly” he said.

According to Arvind Kumar, the Section 192(3) on ‘Naming of Streets and Numbering of Buildings’ of the New Municipalities Act, 2019 stipulates that “The Commissioner shall take up naming and numbering of streets and introduce digital unique property numbering system”.

The members of the commit include Lokesh Kumar, Commissioner, GHMC (member convener) along with members, Dr. T.K.Sreedevi, Director of Municipal Administration, G.T.Venkateshwar Rao, MD, TSTS, Musharraf Faruqui, Additional Commissioner (IT), S.
